Did you know that the Akron area has a lot of great places for family fun? My son and I have had lots of fun play dates in the 330 and have compiled a list of our favorite Akron-area locations:
The Akron Zoo is home to critters from tigers in habitats to goats in a petting zoo. Penguin Point is one of our favorite stops there, as well as Mike & Mary Stark Grizzly Ridge. You can ride the carousel or the train and see all the animals, all within a size and scope that is doable for even the youngest visitor.
Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for senior citizens (62+), and $9 for children ages 2-14. The Zoo is open daily except for Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
The Akron Art Museum offers fun, accessible art for the whole family. From toys in the lobby to Live Creative Children’s Programs, the Museum eschews stuffiness for creativity.
Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (65+), $8 for students with valid ID, and free for children under 17. The Museum also offers Free Thursdays, with free gallery admission for all ages every Thursday, supported by the J.M. Smucker Company. The galleries are open Wednesday-Sunday 11am-5pm and until 9pm on Thursdays. The galleries are closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
Take a step back in time with gorgeous gardens, an impressive manor house, and fun and creative children’s gardens. We loved the sandbox, lawn bowling, slides and climbing walls, and music and bubbles. Even without touring the manor house (which might be a lot for younger kids to take in,) you can easily spend a day playing and exploring outdoors! And Deck the Hall at the holidays is not-to-be-missed!
Admission varies based on where you want to explore and whether you prefer self-guided or guided tours. Click here for information and rates. Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens is open Tuesday-Sunday from 10am-6pm and closed on Mondays.
The Akron Children’s Museum is a bright and fun wonderland that encourages exploration, creativity, and play. The Museum has areas that focus on Science & Technology, Health & Wellness, Citizenship & Community, and Arts & Culture.
Akron Children’s Museum is open Tuesday-Sunday from 10am-6pm and closed on Mondays.
Café o’Play is as much fun for adults as for kids. There’s a huge indoor play area, with sports, climbing, slides, music, and more. The staff hosts daily crafts, as well as special events like Jungle Terry shows, character visits, and dance parties. Plus, the food is great and the people who work there couldn’t be nicer.
There are lots of different admission options based on time and day, so click here for more information. Hours vary based on the season, so click here to find out more.
The next time you’re in need of family fun, look no further than Akron!
