One of the things that I love most about living in Northeast Ohio is being active during our fall and winter season. The cool, crisp air and changing colors are the perfect backdrop for running and bike riding alike. As a local athlete I feel very fortunate to have some of the best races in the country right here close to home. Races that include the Akron Marathon, which is touted as a favorite in the popular running publications like Runners World and the popular Rock & Roll Series. I thought it would be fun to put together a list of some of the fun and challenging events throughout Northeast Ohio this fall/winter. Be sure to add at least one of these events to your list of things to do!
September is full of events. Because it is still warm here there are also some multi-sport events that I’ve included in my list as well including one of my favorite races of the year, which is the Revolution3 Triathlon at Cedar Point!
As our minds start to shift to turkey and holiday shopping, there is still a good reason to keep running and there are a number of great events all over the region to keep everyone fit.
And for those of you that want to keep the holiday stresses at bay and work off some of those holiday cookies and pies, there are some good events happening this year in December including the new Christmas Story 5 & 10K. And I can’t forget to mention everyone’s favorite last race of the year in Akron, the Great New Years Eve 5K!
As you can see there are plenty of fun events throughout the season including many I wasn’t able to include in the list just for the sake of brevity. For a complete list of events you can visit http://runningintheusa.com/Race/List.aspx?State=OH or http://www.trifind.com/oh.html.
And now for the hard part – having to pick one of these great events for your calendar this season. Or, if you’re like me, picking a few of them…decisions, decisions. Whatever you decide, you’ll enjoy training in Northeast Ohio with our cooler temperatures and beautiful scenery!
