Nine projects win Team NEO Economic Development Plus Awards
Nine highly impactful economic development projects have been recognized at the fourth annual Team NEO Economic Developmnet Plus Awards, presented by PNC, for creating jobs, attracting investment and developing opportunities for Northeast Ohio. In 2009, the projects helped the region’s economic development efforts that represented more than $1 billion in capital investment, advanced 115 projects and created 3,200 jobs. Fund awards up to $5.32 million for regional initiatives The Fund for Our Economic Future recently awarded six one-year grants to regional nonprofit economic development organizations working to grow and attract companies. |

Cleveland Foundation grants $17.4 million to area nonprofits Nearly $3 million will support economic transformation in Northeast Ohio. Other grants were made in areas such as neighborhood revitalization, public school improvement, and arts and culture. |

The University of Akron creates FirstEnergy Advanced Energy Research Center The new center will research and create ways to capture carbon dioxide, which would then be used at fossil-fueled power plants and to develop coal-based fuel cells for commercial use. |

Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley to build $7M surgery center Nearly 14,000 square feet of space will be renovated to accommodate the new surgery center, which will include surgical suites, a renovated sterile processing center, a patient recovery area and patient preparation area. |

Northeast Ohio Towpath completes 40-mile stretch
Now you can travel a continuous 40 miles, from Harvard Avenue in Cleveland to Canal Park in Akron, on the Towpath Trail. In all, 80 miles of the 101-mile route are done and planners expect the trail to be complete by 2020. |
