  • BioEnterprise, a business formation, recruitment and acceleration initiative located in Cleveland Plus, has played a critical role in creating, recruiting and advancing more than 50 companies. This has helped generate more than $65 million in revenue and more than 160 technology transfer deals.
  • The Cleveland Clinic is developing the Global Cardiovascular Innovation Center (GCIC). Funding for this project is paid for in part by a $60 million grant from the state of Ohio’s Third Frontier Project. This billion dollar effort is working to expand Ohio’s high-tech research capabilities, promote innovation and create high-paying jobs.
  • According to a report by BioEnterprise, the Cleveland Plus region’s bioscience company developer, health care startups in Northeast Ohio raised $241.8 million in venture capital in 2007. That’s nearly three times as much was raised in 2006. Among the states and region, Minnesota and Ohio tied for first place by each attracting $296 million in 2007. That’s a significantly larger amount than the other states that round out the top five, including Indiana with $135.6 million, Illinois with $125.5 million and Western Pennsylvania with $104.1 million.
  • Ohio is ranked as the best in the Midwest and fourth in the country for bioscience, tied with Texas, for its bioscience strength, according to Business Facilities magazine. The rankings were based on numbers and types of facilities, research and development, and investments, and also factored in lifestyle issues such as cost of living, recreation and educational opportunities.
