As a transportation center, the region features excellent connectivity to suppliers and customers alike through its two class-one rail providers and the east-west I-80/I-76 interstates. Highway access from State Route 11 provides a north-south roadway that leads directly from lake to river. The Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport in Vienna  is equipped with a 9,003-foot runway — the longest in northeast Ohio — and a 5,000-foot secondary runway and accommodates both cargo and passenger aircraft.

Mahoning County is home to the renowned Butler Institute of American Art and Mill Creek MetroParks, the second largest metropolitan park in the U.S.
